THE TIGER PATH: EARLY SPECIALIZATION. The “Tiger Path” is defined by early specialization, where a child begins deliberate, intense practice in a single field almost from infancy. Named after Tiger Woods, whose father started his golf training at just 7 months old.
THE FEDERER PATH: EARLY DIVERSIFICATION. The “Federer Path” focuses on early diversification, or a “sampling period” where a child explores a wide variety of activities before picking a specialty. Roger Federer’s parents encouraged him to play soccer, basketball, and badminton, and he did not focus exclusively on tennis. Both athletes became dominant athletes in their field. Tiger Woods dominated golf for many years and Roger Federer also dominated tennis for many years.
